Mentor Role & Responsibilities

We are so glad that you want to learn more about mentoring.  Mentors serve an important role with our youth.

The Role: to serve as a resource and guide for participants within a special interest group (listed below)

The Venue: Conversation will take place online through the Discovering My Purpose web site.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming new people who have joined the community
  • Keeping an eye on posts made to ensure that they follow our Rules of the Road
  • Encouraging conversation and chiming in with ideas and resources as appropriate. The hope is that it will not always be up to mentors to answer questions, since we want participants to share best practices among themselves.

Expectations - That mentors are:

  • Mindful of their position as a role model
  • Respectul of the diversity of those on the site, who may come from different religious, political, or ethnic backgrounds
  • Observant of Discovering My Purpose's Rules of the Road
  • Diligent about the need to safeguard the privacy of participants, many of whom may be minors.

Time Commitment: An estimated 45 - 60 minutes per week. Mentor service lasts one year and can be extended if DMP doesn't have others waiting to serve.

Groups in place right now: Active Living, Change The World, Computers/Technology, Creative Arts, Entrepreneurship, Giving Back, and Math & Science
